Giles gave me so much time and plenty of explanation about what to expect before the operation, during hospitalisation and afterwards. I was quite nervous about having a total hip replacement , despite not being a particularly nervous person. I did a lot of personal research before committing, and spoke to several people who had had hip replacements themselves. Each reassured me, and each one emphasised how important it is to keep doing the exercises. I also heard my share of third hand stories of operations which hadn’t gone so well, falling off beds, leg swelling, etc. Such things stick in one’s mind and don’t help. Now I have had the operation, I would say I don’t know why I was so worried. I have had no pain at all since leaving the recovery room. Nothing in hospital, still nothing 6 weeks on. The very occasional ache when I tried to walk too far in week 2 post op. My muscles have recovered quickly - it’s important to be fit going in to it - and I have a good physio who I have seen twice a week. I’m now stepping up the intensity of my exercise, which still is walking, cycling, stretching and strengthening. I hadn’t realised how much the chronic pain was dragging me down before the operation, I don’t regret it for a minute and my quality of life is already so much better. It’s so nice to be able to feel properly aligned. And get into the driver’s seat of the car without lifting my leg. I still feel a bit wobbly if I’ve sat for too long, so that still needs working on. Also check out the HelpMyHip YouTube videos - very helpful for explanation and rehab. Altogether a positive experience from start to finish and Giles inspires total confidence. I would recommend him to everyone!

Wow. I went to see Giles following a recommendation from my physio, after undergoing 2 previous failed hip procedures under 2 different consultants. After just 2 months of my THR carried out by Giles I was 100% back to all activities - including a PT at the gym - and cannot remember feeling this positive about the level of fitness I can once again achieve (after over 2 years of being unable to do much at all). Very nice chap too!

I cannot praise Mr Stafford enough on every level. He is approachable, very thorough in his explanations, never rushed and perhaps most importantly for me he gave me complete confidence in what I could achieve post surgery. The whole experience has been positive and I have recovered in a way I would not have thought possible. This is entirely due to Mr Stafford’s approach.

Very charming, friendly and trustworthy. Excellent communicator. Feel like you’re in very safe and competent hands. Not at all pompous or gimmicky like so many other consultants.

Giles performed a total replacement of my left hip at the end of March this year. From beginning to end the whole process has been remarkable with minimal pain or discomfort. Within hours of surgery I was walking around my room. A few days I was moving around home with no issues and after 3 weeks I no longer needed a crutch to walk outside. 10 weeks in it's hard to believe I've had surgery at all! The approach to the procedure of Giles and his team is exceptional and the treatment I've received has been second to none. I have no hesitation in recommending him if you are in need of a new hip, in fact I already have!
